The departure of Metropolitan Emilianos

This article is a collective testimony written by the monastic community of Bose on the occasion of the death of Metropolitan Emilianos (Timiadis) of Silyvria, which occurred on February 22, 2008. In the form of a necrologial and spiritual notice, the text retraces the final months of this hierarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, who had chosen to live as a brother at Bose since 1995. It highlights his exceptional ecumenical journey: representative of Patriarch Athenagoras to the World Council of Churches for twenty-five years and observer at the Second Vatican Council. The article emphasizes the eucharistic and peaceful dimension of his death, as well as his constant concern for the unity of Christians. On the theological level, it presents Metropolitan Emilianos as a prophetic figure of Orthodox ecumenism, whose entire existence constitutes a living witness to the Church's vocation to unity.
