Laurent Mazliak

This article reports on the proceedings of the "Science and Faith" workshop held at an Orthodox congress, through the account written by Laurent Mazliak. Belonging to the genre of session reports, it reconstructs two sessions with distinct formats: an open debate in the style of a philosophical café, followed by an in-depth reflection based on a structured presentation. The central idea is that the dialogue between science and faith cannot be reduced to bioethical or technological issues, but must address modes of knowledge themselves. The presentation identifies three contemporary tendencies — fundamentalism, a new concordist paradigm, and philosophical mediation — and suggests that the latter offers particularly fertile ground for Orthodox thought, by articulating apophatic theology, the cyclical vision of the world characteristic of Christian Orient, and transcendental phenomenology, in the face of the risk of spiritual schizophrenia facing modern man.
