Christophe Schneider

This article examines the thought of the Russian theologian and martyr Pavel Florensky (1882-1937) in light of the philosophical and theological debates of the twentieth century. Through an analytical study, Christophe Schneider explores the way in which Florensky articulates the relationship between reason and faith, rejecting two symmetrical pitfalls: the subordination of revealed Truth to the finite categories of reason, characteristic of onto-theology, and its abandonment to a pure irrationalism, typical of fideism. The article highlights the central notion of "supra-rationality" in Florensky, which designates a form of knowledge that transcends the limits of human understanding without denying them. The theological contribution of this paper lies in the valorization of an original Orthodox epistemology, rooted in the pneumatological tradition, which offers a coherent response to the dead ends of philosophical modernity.
