Theology and politics in contemporary Greece a missed opportunity for Greek theologians of the generation of the sixtiesThis article examines the relationship between theology and politics in the contemporary Greek context, drawing on historical and ecclesiological analysis. Dimitri Moschos studies the way in which Greek Orthodox theology has articulated, or conversely dissociated, the liturgical dimension of faith and its social and political implications. The study shows that the centrality accorded to the Eucharist in modern Greek theological thought has not always been accompanied by coherent reflection on its ethical and communal extensions. The main contribution of the article lies in highlighting a structural tension within Greek Orthodoxy between a highly developed theology of the liturgy and a relative insufficiency in its deployment in the social and political sphere, a tension whose biblical and patristic roots nonetheless make it possible to move beyond the opposition.
