The knowledge of God
Issue 293 · 2026
This article by Father Elias Morcos, a founding figure of the Orthodox Youth Movement in Lebanon, offers a brief meditation on the knowledge of God. The author approaches this central theme of Orthodox theology not from a speculative angle, but as a living and personal experience. He draws out its essential characteristics: a unique face-to-face encounter between man and God, rooted in the ecclesial tradition. This knowledge does not belong to the realm of abstract learning, but is in consonance with the whole of the Church's lived experience. Through its simple style and traditional vocabulary, this meditation offers an accessible introduction to the experiential dimension of the Orthodox faith, reminding us that authentic theology proceeds from a personal encounter with the divine rather than from a purely intellectual elaboration.
