Theology and practice Testimony from the interviews of Father Cyrille ArgentiThis article is devoted to the theological thought of Father Alexander Schmemann, a major figure in twentieth-century Orthodox theology. The authors adopt an analytical and synthetic approach, drawing primarily on radio broadcasts in which Schmemann expounded his understanding of the ecumenical councils. The central idea is to show how, in this author's work, theological reflection and ecclesial practice are inseparably intertwined, with conciliar doctrine never being separated from its living reception in the life of the Church. On the theological and historical level, the article sheds light on the way in which Schmemann conveyed complex dogmatic teaching to a broad audience, thereby revealing a catechetical and theological method specific to his vision of the Orthodox Tradition and its relevance for the contemporary world.
