Henri Blocher

This article constitutes the reflective testimony of Henri Blocher, an evangelical theologian, on his participation in several ecumenical dialogues, primarily between evangelicals and Roman Catholics. Drawing on both biographical narrative and theological analysis, it retraces the dialogue occasions in which the author took part — notably the conversations between the World Evangelical Alliance and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (1993-2002) — while evaluating their impact on his own thinking. Blocher identifies genuine doctrinal and spiritual affinities between the two traditions, without minimizing persistent divergences, particularly regarding the scriptural principle and sacramental causality. The theological contribution of the article lies in a "systemic" reading of confessional differences based on Dooyeweerd's foundational motifs, distinguishing the Nature-Grace scheme, dominant in Catholic thought, from the Creation-Fall-Redemption scheme, which structures the evangelical theology inherited from the Reformation.
