Nicolas Monseu

This article examines the thought of the philosopher Leon Shestov through the lens of the experience of limit situations in human existence. Situated within a philosophical and theological framework, the contribution of Nicolas Monseu, professor at the University of Namur, analyzes the way in which Shestov approaches the boundaries of life — suffering, death, despair — as places of a possible revelation of the ultimate meaning of existence. The central idea is that these extreme experiences constitute, in Shestov, a breaking point with autonomous reason and an opening toward a radical faith. On the theological and historical level, the article highlights the influence exerted by this Russian-born thinker on twentieth-century Western philosophy, particularly in his reflection on freedom and the human condition inspired by Christianity.
