Pressureless unit : orthodox labyrinths in ecumenical dialogue
Issue 269 · 2020

The article examines the participation of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the contemporary ecumenical movement, questioning the conditions under which this involvement can remain authentic and fruitful. Through an analytical study, Rastko Jović explores the tension between the pursuit of Christian unity and the institutional or ideological pressures likely to compromise the theological integrity of the participating Churches. The central idea is that Christian unity can only be pursued in freedom, without external constraint or imposed doctrinal compromise. On the theological level, the article sheds light on the way in which the Serbian Church conceives its presence in ecumenical bodies: not as an unconditional adherence to common structures, but as a witness to the Orthodox faith in the service of a dialogue that respects ecclesial identities. This reflection contributes to the broader debate on the ecclesiological foundations of Orthodox ecumenical engagement.
