A Nativity celebration in turmoilThis article presents a Christmas message written by Archbishop Saba (Esber), Syrian metropolitan, in the context of the war in Syria and the global pandemic. It is a pastoral and spiritual testimony addressed to faithful confronted with a double ordeal: armed conflict and the health crisis. The central idea rests on the capacity of the feast of the Nativity to maintain hope within collective suffering, by anchoring Christian life in an eschatological perspective. On the theological level, the text illustrates how the Orthodox tradition articulates liturgical celebration and painful historical reality, making the Nativity of Christ not a refuge from the world, but a foundation from which believers can face adversity without yielding to despair.
