The theologians Nissiotis and Nellas and the generation of the sixtiesThis article examines the theological thought of Nikos Nissiotis and Panayotis Nellas, two major figures of the Greek Orthodox theological renewal of the second half of the twentieth century. The author offers a comparative and analytical study of their respective contributions, situating them within the intellectual and ecclesial context of their generation. The central idea is that these two theologians each embody, in their own way, an attempt to renew Orthodox theology drawing on patristic and liturgical sources, in dialogue with Western modernity. On the theological and historical level, the article highlights the singular place occupied by Nissiotis and Nellas within a broader movement of Greek theological renaissance, thereby contributing to a better understanding of contemporary Orthodoxy and its internal dynamics during the nineteen sixties.
