Métropolite Emilianos Timiadis

This article is the transcript of a paper delivered in 1986 by Metropolitan Emilianos Timiadis in an Orthodox parish in Fribourg. It addresses the question of Christian specificity in a secularized and homogenized society. Taking both a theological and pastoral approach, the author examines the reasons for the Christian's existence in the world, drawing on the Church Fathers — Origen, Athanasius, John Chrysostom, Gregory of Nyssa — as well as on scriptural and patristic texts.
