J.-M. R. Tillard op

This article is a necrology devoted to the Dominican father Jean-Marie Roger Tillard (1927-2000), written by Nicolas Lossky, an Orthodox theologian who collaborated with him at length within the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches. Adopting the form of a personal testimony, the article traces Tillard's intellectual and human trajectory, drawing in particular on his last work, *Je crois en dépit de tout*. The author presents and analyses the Dominican theologian's major ecclesiological series — *L'évêque de Rome*, *Église d'Églises*, *Chair de l'Église, chair du Christ* and *L'Église locale* —, centred on the notion of communion as the fundamental structure of the Church. The main contribution of the article is to show, from an Orthodox perspective, the profound convergence between Tillard's ecclesiology and the Orthodox tradition, particularly on synodality, primacy and catholicity.
