Anghélos Sikélianos

This article presents the French translation of the poem "Requiem for Papadiamantis" by the Greek poet Angelos Sikelianos (1884-1951), taken from the collection *Lyrikos Bios V*, translated by Michel and Sophie Stavrou. The poem pays tribute to the Greek writer Alexandros Papadiamantis through a lyrical meditation evoking his solitary and mystical figure on the island of Skiathos. The central idea rests on an original synthesis of Hellenic and Christian heritages: Sikelianos articulates the figures of Dionysus, Apollo and Christ into a unified vision in which literary creation proceeds from a spiritual intoxication. On a theological level, the poem illustrates Sikelianos's attempt to transcend the contradictions of the Hellenic tradition by proposing an organic reading of beauty, humility and Christian mystery, making Papadiamantis the exemplary embodiment of this synthesis.
