Humanity of the theologian
Issue 28 · 1959

This article is a personal testimony by Jean Lossky about his father, the Orthodox theologian Vladimir Lossky, written on the occasion of the publication of a commemorative collection devoted to his life and work. In the form of an intimate portrait, the text focuses not on the theological or academic dimension of the deceased, but on his profound humanity: his humor, his inner freedom, his universal curiosity, his sense of honor, and his joy of living. The article argues that these human qualities — far from being secondary — constitute the very foundation of the theologian's spiritual and intellectual stature. Its contribution lies in this illumination of the coherence between authentic Christian life and human fullness, suggesting that lived theology also manifests itself in the art of fully inhabiting time and the world.
