Joseph Limagne

This article reproduces an interview given by Patriarch Ignatius IV of Antioch to the journal *Actualité religieuse dans le monde* in July 1983, following a stay in Europe. The text, presented in the form of a conversation conducted by Olivier Clément and Joseph Limagne, addresses several major questions of ecumenical dialogue. Ignatius IV sets out his vision of Roman primacy as a "primacy of service," criticizes the artificial character of the Uniate Churches, and advocates for an Orthodox liturgical reform. He also discusses Orthodox participation in the World Council of Churches, the situation of Christians in the Middle East and Lebanon, and the need for common witness. The value of this document lies in the clarity with which an Orthodox primate articulates, in a direct and non-academic register, committed ecclesiological positions on Christian unity and the institutional obstacles that delay it.
