Métropolite Nicolas Corneanu

This article constitutes a commemorative tribute paid by Metropolitan Nicolae Corneanu to the lay Orthodox theologian Paul Evdokimov (1901-1970). The author traces Evdokimov's biography, from his aristocratic origins in Saint Petersburg to his Parisian exile following the Bolshevik revolution, including his professorial career at the Saint Sergius Institute and his ecumenical commitment. The article also presents an overview of his theological work and documents its reception in Romania through several translations published after 1989. The main contribution of this text lies in the author's personal testimony, having worked alongside Evdokimov within the Steering Committee of the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey-Geneva, and in shedding light on the influence exerted by the Russian theological diaspora on Romanian Orthodox spirituality during the years of communist rule.
