Métropolite Philarète de Minsk

This article by Metropolitan Philaret of Minsk offers a theological study devoted to Vladimir Lossky (1903-1958) on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. Adopting both a commemorative and analytical approach, the author examines Lossky's legacy from three main angles: his neo-patristic theological method, his conception of the person, and his ecclesiology. Philaret emphasizes that Lossky, a theologian of the Russian emigration formed in the context of the crises of the twentieth century, was able to articulate fidelity to the patristic Tradition with a creative response to contemporary challenges. The article highlights Lossky's considerable influence on world Orthodox theology, particularly in Soviet Russia where his translated works circulated clandestinely, as well as his contribution to ecumenical dialogue. The author stresses the need to extend, rather than freeze, this legacy, particularly on the themes of Christian personalism and the catholicity of the Church.
