Damaskinos Papandréou

Cet article examine la figure du patriarche Athénagoras de Constantinople et sa conception des relations inter-ecclésiales, à travers un texte inédit du métropolite Damaskinos Papandréou (1936-2011), théologien orthodoxe et acteur engagé du dialogue œcuménique. L'étude analyse le choix délibéré du patriarche Athénagoras de placer le « dialogue de la charité » au fondement des rapprochements entre Églises, en le distinguant du dialogue théologique proprement dit. L'auteur interprète cette priorité accordée à l'amour non comme un renoncement doctrinal, mais comme un acte pastoral conscient et responsable, porteur d'une vision ecclésiologique cohérente. Sur le plan théologique, l'article contribue à la réflexion sur les conditions et les méthodes du dialogue inter-ecclésial en montrant comment la charité peut constituer un critère structurant des relations entre communautés chrétiennes séparées, indépendamment des convergences dogmatiques préalables.

This article examines the figure of Patriarch Athenagoras of Constantinople and his conception of inter-ecclesial relations, through an unpublished text by Metropolitan Damaskinos Papandreou (1936-2011), an Orthodox theologian and committed participant in ecumenical dialogue. The study analyzes Patriarch Athenagoras's deliberate choice to place the "dialogue of charity" at the foundation of rapprochements between Churches, distinguishing it from strictly theological dialogue. The author interprets this priority given to love not as a doctrinal renunciation, but as a conscious and responsible pastoral act, bearing a coherent ecclesiological vision. On the theological level, the article contributes to reflection on the conditions and methods of inter-ecclesial dialogue by showing how charity can constitute a structuring criterion for relations between separated Christian communities, independently of prior dogmatic convergences.
