Nicolas Afanassieff

Cet article présente la première traduction française du texte théologique Le Repas du Seigneur du père Nicolas Afanassieff, publié en russe à Paris en 1952. Il s'agit d'une traduction intégrale d'une monographie fondatrice, rendue accessible pour la première fois à un lectorat occidental. L'idée centrale porte sur le sens ecclésiologique de l'eucharistie : Afanassieff y développe sa conception de l'Église locale constituée et manifestée dans le rassemblement eucharistique, posant ainsi les bases de ce que l'on appellera l'ecclésiologie eucharistique. L'apport de ce texte est considérable tant sur le plan théologique qu'historique : il permet de saisir la genèse de la pensée afanassiévienne avant ses développements ultérieurs, et offre aux chercheurs francophones un accès direct à une œuvre qui a profondément marqué la théologie orthodoxe du vingtième siècle et influencé le dialogue œcuménique.

This article presents the first French translation of the theological text The Lord's Supper by Father Nicolas Afanassieff, published in Russian in Paris in 1952. It is a complete translation of a foundational monograph, made accessible for the first time to a Western readership. The central idea concerns the ecclesiological meaning of the Eucharist: Afanassieff develops his conception of the local Church constituted and manifested in the eucharistic assembly, thereby laying the groundwork for what would come to be called eucharistic ecclesiology. The contribution of this text is considerable both theologically and historically: it allows us to grasp the genesis of Afanassieff's thought prior to its later developments, and offers French-speaking scholars direct access to a work that has profoundly marked Orthodox theology in the twentieth century and influenced ecumenical dialogue.
